What baseboards and trim cost with a new floor
Every floating floor needs an expansion gap at the wall, and something has to cover it: the old baseboard put back, a new one, or a quarter-round added along the old one. New baseboard is priced by the linear foot, painted or not, and a whole house has more feet of wall than people expect. The calculator estimates the perimeter from the square feet.
$4–$8 per linear foot
Three things that change the price
- Reuse, new or shoe molding: reusing the old boards is labor only, quarter-round is the cheapest new trim
- Material and height: primed MDF is the baseline, tall hardwood profiles are several times more
- Painting: a separate line, or a separate trade, unless the contractor includes it
Put your own square feet in
National averages: material plus installation per square foot from the same cost tables FlooringFAQ publishes, extras at typical contractor rates. Local labor moves the range; a quote far outside it deserves a question.
